What can I do if ReadCube won't launch / update / install?

If your ReadCube app gets stuck logging in/updating/installing, there are a few different actions you can take.  We suggest you try them in the below order:

1.) Disable your anti-virus/firewall programs, then try installing again.

We recommend that you check your antivirus/malware software to see if any ReadCube files or folders have been falsely quarantined/"vaulted". If there are any ReadCube files that are blocked, restoring/whitelisting them and then restarting your computer should fix the problem.

2.) Try a complete re-installation (see below for instructions):

Windows XP and up:

1.) Navigate to C:/Users/[account name]/appdata/local by opening the Run dialog and pasting in %localappdata% (select Run from the Start Menu or press the Windows key + R)

2.) Open the "com.readcube.desktop" folder.

3.) There is an Uninstall utility in this folder - double-click to run it and uninstall the app.4.) Your library database - in the "data" folder - will not be deleted. To back up the database, move the entire "data" folder to another location on your computer (e.g. the desktop). 5.) If you want to test the new ReadCube installation with a fresh library, make sure the "data" folder is moved or deleted from the com.readcube.desktop folder.6.) Restart your computer.

7.) Download and install the latest ReadCube installer from:www.readcube.com

8.) Reinstall and start the app to check that everything is in working order.

9.) To restore your previous library, go back to the com.readcube.desktop folder, delete the "data" subfolder and replace it with the one you backed up in step 4.

Mac OS X:

1.) Go to ~/Library/Preferences by opening a Finder window and hitting Cmd+Shift+G. Paste in ~/Library/Preferences

2) Open the "com.readcube.desktop" folder. If you can't find this folder here, check under ~/Library/Application Support.

3.) There is an Uninstall utility in this folder - double-click to run it and uninstall the app.

4.) Your library database - in the "data" folder - will not be deleted. To back up the database, move the entire "data" folder to another location on your computer (e.g. the desktop).

5.) If you want to test the new ReadCube installation with a fresh library, make sure the "data" folder is moved or deleted from the com.readcube.desktop folder.

6.) Restart your computer.

4.) If possible, try installing on a different network.

5.) Do you have Internet Explorer (Windows) or Safari (Mac) browser installed?
